Scots women fall to UHS&P 69-64

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots women were on the short side of a 69-64 American Midwest Conference loss to the University of Health, Sciences and Pharmacy Eutetics on Thursday night at Becknell Gymnasium.

The Scots (8-11, 7-8) led 18-11 after the first quarter and 25-23 at halftime. Grace Beyer scored 39 points to lead the Eutectics in second half. Allison Byars scored 21 points, Page Tate had nine rebounds and 12 points and Kristen Baham scored 10 points. 

Lyon College had nine points off of turnovers, eight second chance points and got 13 points from the bench.

Kayla Richardson started the scoring with two free throws for the Scots, then Byars made a three pointer and added two free throws, but the Eutectics came back to tie the game at 7-7 and 9-9. Savanna Lopez scored inside twice for a four point lead. Baham made a jumper and Byars connected on a three-pointer for an 18-11 Scots lead.

Tate made two free throws, but UHS&P came back to cut the Lyon lead to two points, 20-18. Tate made a jumper and after the Eutectics had taken a 1-point lead on a three-pointer, Natalya Kaza made a three for the Scots before the end of the half.

Tate hit a free throw and Baham made a three-pointer to start the third quarter, but the Eutectics came back to take a 30-29 lead. Byars made two free throws and Tate hit a jumper and Kaza tied the game at 35-35 at the foul line. Kaza made a jump shot and Byars made two more free throws and Tate added two from the line to make it a 44-41 game. Baham made a three-pointer just before the end of the quarter to cut the Eutectics lead to two points.

Tate completed a three-point play and Byars hit a jumper to put the Scots in front. After a Beyers three-pointer, Mari-Hanna Newsom made a three-pointer and Lopez added a shot for a 54-51 Lyon lead. Newsome made another three-pointer to tie the game at 59-59 with 2:26 to go.
