Scots drop double header to 8th-ranked Central Methodist

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots dropped a double-header to the 8th-ranked Central Methodist Eagles on Friday afternoon 10-2 and 5-3 at Howard and Mary House Field in Batesville.

The Scots (0-5) took the lead in both games. In the bottom of the first inning of the first game, Sophie Varela scored on a wild pitch that also moved up Anna Voth to second. Voth scored when Fallon Lancaster singled to make it 2-0.

Central Methodist tied the game in the second inning with two runs and took the lead with two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Eagles added a run in the fifth, tacked on three in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The Scots only had two hits in the game, coming from MK Duffield and Lancaster. McKenzie Campbell suffered the loss going four innings and giving up seven hits and four runs, while striking out four batters. Alyssa Buentello pitched three innings and allowed six runs on six hits with two strike outs. 

Lyon College took the lead again in the second game when Caeley Wood singled in Duffield for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Central Methodist came back to tie the game a run-scoring double to tie the game in the top of the third, but Duffield singled in Voth in the bottom of the third, then Trinity Arrambide singled in Wood in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 3-1 Scots lead.

The Eagles tied the game on a 2-run homer in the top of the sixth inning and Central Methodist added on two more runs to lead 5-3.

In the second game, Varela had a hit, Voth had two hits, Duffield was 2-for-4, Whitney Mitchell had a hit and defensively made a catch in left field to rob the Eagles of a home run. Wood had two hits and Arrambide had a hit.
