Kaza scores 20 to lead Scots past Bacone College 101-49

BATESVILLE, ARK. - Natalya Kaza scored 20 points to lead the Lyon College Scots in a 101-49 win over the visiting Bacone College Warriors on Wednesday night at Becknell Gymnasium.

The Scots (11-13) also got double-digit scoring from five other players. Savanna Lopez scored 16 points, Paige Tate had 15 points, while Allison Byars, Kristen Baham and Mari-Hanna Newsom scored 14 points each for Lyon. Kayla Richardson and Ashley Jones both added four points each in the win.

Lyon College shot 50.6 percent from the floor, 40-of-79. The Scots hit 11-of-25 three-pointers and made 10-of-11 free throws. They had four points in the paint, 18 points off of turnovers, 16 second chance points and got an impressive 40 points from its bench. Lyon led by as much as 54 points with 51 seconds to go in the game.

Lyon College out scored Bacone 28-14 in the first quarter and 25-15 in the second period to go up 53-29 by halftime. The Scots put 23 points to Bacone's nine in the third period and outscored the Warriors 25-11 in the fourth.

Baham started the scoring with two free throws, but Bacone came back to take a 3-2 lead. Tate scored and Baham hit jump shot, but the Warriors tied the game at 6-6. Byars scored, Baham made a driving jumper and Lopez scored three times in a row. Newsom made a three-pointer for a 19-9 lead. Kaza added two free throws and a three-pointer, then Richardson and Tate scored inside for a 14-point Lyon College lead.

In the second quarter, Tate made two free throws and a jump shot, Baham made a three-pointer, Byars completed a three-point play and added two free throws for a 42-16 lead. Kaza hit a jump shot and made a three-pointer, then Newsom scored inside and Baham hit a shot from the baseline to put the Scots up by 24.

Byars connected on a three-pointer, Tate scored twice, Newsom made a three-pointer, Tate scored again and Lopez put in a basket before Bacone scored again. Newsom's three-pointer made it a 70-34 Lyon lead. Lopez put in a basket, Jones scored and Lopez hit another turnaround for a 42-point Lyon College lead, 76-34.  

Lopez and Tate scored before Kaza made two three-pointers in a row. Richardson scored, Newsom made a three-pointer and Kaza hit another basket for a 94-42 lead. Lopez and Jones hit baskets and Kaza completed the night with a three-pointer for a 54-point lead, 101-47.
