CONWAY, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots were riding a five-game winning streak heading into Friday night's non-conference game against the Hendrix Warriors in Conway.
The Scots (6-3, 3-0) trailed most of the contest to the host Warriors and fell 74-64.
Kylon McCullough led Lyon College with 13 points.
John Paul Morgan had 10 points and 11 rebounds,
Frank Toney had 10 points and
Trenton Bell added eight.
Israel Palmer,
Malik Madison and
Luke Bridges all had six points each, wile
Jaaron Harriott added three points and
Jones White scored two.
Hendrix led 42-35 at halftime.
Lyon College had an early 4-3 lead thanks to a dunk from Madison and a layup from Palmer. A jumper from Toney and a basket by Palmer put the Scots up 8-7 and a three-pointer from McCullough made it an 11-10 lead. Bridges put in a layup for a 13-12 Lyon lead with 12:08 to go in the first half, but Hendrix went on a 9-0 run on three straight three-pointers. Bridges scored again and Morgan put in a basket, then Bell added a free throw and completed a three-point play to tie the game at 21-21 at the 6:35 mark.
The Warriors went up by six points before Morgan scored again for the Scots. White hit a mid-range jumper and McCullough made a three-pointer to get Lyon College to within four points, 34-30, but Hendrix 42-35 despite two baskets from Morgan in the final minute.
The Scots trailed by 10 points for much of the first four minutes of the second half. A Toney three-pointer and a jumper from Madison cut that lead in half with 16:17 to go. McCullough made another three-pointer and Bridges scored inside to make it 50-49 at the 13:13 mark. Two minutes later, McCullough scored on a fast-break to make it 52-51 with Hendrix still leading. A four-point play and a three-pointer gave the Warriors an eight-point cushion before Bell scored for Lyon College.
Hendrix increased its lead back to 10 points before McCullough could score for the Scots.Toney scored five straight points to get the lead down to single digits, then Morgan scored inside to make it an eight-point game with 58 seconds to play 70-62.
