Scots survive Shaw University 2-1 in intense soccer match at USCAA National Championships

Box Score PITTSBURG, Pennsylvania - The Lyon College Scots men's soccer team survived a 2-1 win over Shaw University on Friday morning at the USCAA National Championships.

Erik Oliveria scored the game's first goal in the first half to put the Scots (11-6-1) up 1-0. in the second half battle, Matheus Nunes broke free for a goal just past the Shaw goal keeper to give Lyon College a 2-1 lead at the 18:39 mark of the contest.

Shaw came back to get a goal at the 7:34 mark and that set up one of the most intense endings to a soccer game.

With Lyon having the ball with 21 seconds left, a shot on goal was saved and immediately kicked down field. The Scots keeper came out to midfield to stop the shot, leaving two Shaw players in the back field heading toward the goal, As time was running off the clock, Shaw kicked in what was apparently a tiying goal with zero time on the board. The referee immediately whistled that the Shaw player was off sides and the goal did not count.

The Scots will now wait to see the outcome of the Bryant & Stratton Rochester match tomorrow to find out if they will advance to Sunday's championshp.
