BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College women's volleyball team lost to Greenville 3-2 and defeated Blackburn College 3-0 in a SLIAC tri-match on Senior Day Saturday at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots (10-12, 6-3) lost to Greenville in the first set 25-21, defeated Greenville 25-17 and 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead, but Greenville came back to win the fourth set 25-23 and the fifth set to 15-9 to win the match.
Kylee Sabella led Lyon with 16 kills, while
Isabella Beasley and
Keeley Beary had eight kills each.
Paeton Tucker, Sabella and
Bethany Williams had two aces on serves in the match. Beary had five blocks, Sabella had three and
Janiya Vanderpool had two blocks for points.
Madeline Hopson had 20 assists, while
Lauren White added 15 and Tucker had five. Sabella led in digs with 16, Tucker added eight and
Marti Flores had seven digs.Â
Greenville led 8-2 in the first set before Sabella served up an ace, Beary got a kill, Flores served an ace, Tucker got a kill, then Sabella got a kill and a block for a point to put the Scots up 14-12. Flores added a kill, Sabella got another kill and Williams served up an ace to lead 18-16, but Greenville came back to take a 20-18 lead. Two quick kills from Sabella tied the set at 20-20, however Greenville put up for straight points before a block by Beary got Lyon on the board again. Greenville won the set on a kill.
In the second set, Beasley and Sabella both got kills early on, White got a kill, Sabella added another one, Beary got a kill and Sabella added her third for a 10-6 Scots lead. Flores served up an ace, then Vanderpool had a kill, Sabella and Beasley combined for two straight kills and Beary got a block to put Lyon up 16-11. Kills from Beasley, Beary and Tucker made a seven point lead for the Scots. A kill by Besley ended the set with a 25-17 win.
In the third set, Greenville led 10-6 before the Scots got rolling with kills by White, Sabella and a block from Beary. Sabella had an ace serve, then Williams got a kill to tie the set at 18-18. Tucker put Lyon College in the lead with a kill, then Sabella got two kills in a row, Hopson got a kill and Sabella ended the set with a kill and a 25-22 win.
Lyon held an early 8-5 lead in the fourth set when Tucker and Williams both had kills. Beasley added a kill, Sabella got a kill, Beary got a kill and Williams got a kill to keep the Scots in front 18-17 later in the set. Tucker got two kills and Williams added a kill late to make it a 22-20 Lyon lead, but Greenville came back to outscore the Scots 5-1 to win the set.
The Scots were up 3-1 early in the fifth and deciding set when Beasley and Sabella got kills, but Greenville scored eight straight points to lead 10-5. Beary got a kill and Tucker followed with a spike at the net, but Greenville went on to take the final set by six points and win the match 3-2.
Against Blackburn College, Lyon won in straight sets 25-23, 25-17 and 25-23. Sabella led with 14 kills, Tucker had eight and Beasley had six kills. Hopson and Flores had two aces each and Sabella added one. Tucker, Sabella and Williams all had one block for a point each, while White led in assists with 18, Hopson added 17 and Beasley had one. Tucker led in digs with 19, Hopson had nine and Sabella had nine digs in the win.
