BATESVILLE, Ark. -
Delvonte McCloud converted a layup with 14 seconds left to give the Lyon College Scots a 70-69 win over the visiting Central Baptist College Mustangs at Becknell Gymnasium on Thursday night.
Trenton Bell led the Scots (4-7, 1-4) with 18 points, while McCloud added 17 points and
Nikola SaSaroga added 16 points and eight rebounds.
John Paul Morgan had nine points and 13 boards for Lyon College in its first American Midwest Conference victory of the season.
McCloud and Morgan scored early baskets for the Scots and Bell made three straight shots and completed a three-point play in the process for an 11-8 Lyon College lead. McCloud and Bell, before McCloud scored two baskets in a row. SaSaroga added a jumper and made a layup. Bell knocked down a three-pointer, McCloud scored inside, SaSaroga made two free throws and a jump shot.
Israel Palmer put in a layup, SaSaroga made two free throws, but CBC came back to tie the game at 35-35. Palmer broke the tie with a three-pointer, Morgan scored inside, McCloud made a three-pointer and completed a three-point play before the end of the first half to give Lyon College a 46-37 lead.
Bell made a jump shot to open the second half, but the Mustangs closed the Lyon College lead to 48-42.
Luke Bridges scored, Morgan put in a free throw, SaSaroga scored inside and added two free throws, then Palmer's three-pointer put the Scots up by 10 points, 58-48 with 9:56 to go.Â
CBC came back to tie the game at 64-64 with just over three-and-half minutes to play. SaSaroga made two free throws and Morgan put the Scots in front with a jumper with 46 seconds to play. The Mustangs made a three-pointer to take a one-point lead, then McCloud took the ball to the basket and broke around his defender to put in the game-winning layup.
