BATESVILLE, Ark. - Goals by
Allison Byars and
Abby Ponder allowed the Lyon College women's soccer team to claim their first win of the 2022 season by defeating the visiting University of the Ozarks on Wednesday afternoon at Huser Field.
An assist by
Emily Betzold gave Byars an open shot to the goal with 10:19 mark of the first half. .
Ponder's score came from 25-yards out that went untouched inside the back of the net at the 49:45 mark of the second half.Â
The University of the Ozarks was able to get a goal at the 77:10 mark and had two shots in the final minute of the game that were saved by
Rhyan Hioki of Lyon College.
Hioki had 16 saves in 90 minutes of play.
The Scots took eight shots and half of them were on goal. Byars accounted for two shots on goal with one netter, while Lovell took one shot and Ponder had two shots and netted one.
Ashlyn Winters also took a shot for Lyon College.
Alli Mead started a corner kick that led to Byars score after Betzold got stopped by a defender and passed to Byars. Lyon College led 1-0 at halftime.
After thwarting a corner kick by the University of the Ozarks where
Kate Whitenton blocked a potential shot on goal, Ponder found herself open and netted her first goal of the year.Â

Trinity Arrambide, Winters and Haley Williams kept the University of the Ozarks out of scoring position during the first half.Â
Hioki responded by saving a game-tying shot at the 89:24 mark of the game. Two corner kicks by the University of the Ozarks went wide and were blocked by the Scots' Allie Mead.
Lyon College (1-5-0) travel to Texarkana, Texas to play the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles at 3 p.m. on Friday.
