Isaiah Bradford scored two touchdowns and
Aedan Huntsman added another score and kicker
Kevin Kargozar was perfect on extra point attempts and added a 21-yard field goal to lead Lyon College over Missouri Baptist 24-12 on Saturday at Pioneer Stadium in Batesville.
Bradford led a 13-play, 75-yard drive in the first 5:24 of the game to score from one-yard out. Kargozar added the extra point to put the Scots up 7-0.
Scots defensive back
Chris Bronson intercepted a Missouri Baptist pass and returned it 36 yards back into Spartans territory. Lyon College's drive stalled and a fumbled snap on a punt allowed Missouri Baptist to set up for a 24-yard field goal with 2:10 left in the quarter.Â
The Spartans added another field goal with 12:38 to go before halftime to make it 7-6 and they took the lead at the 4:04 mark with a third field goal from 29-yards out.Â
Trailing 9-7, Bradford had a 19-yard completion to Reginald Brown in the Scots "hurry up" offense and an 8-yard rush by Bradford got the ball down to the Missouri Baptist 12 yard-line.Â
Kargozar was able to boot a 21-yard field goal with five seconds to go before halftime to put Lyon College up 10-9.
In the third quarter,
Troy Potter got a partial block on a Missouri Baptist punt that went 14 yards. It took only 1:08 and three plays for the Scots to score. Bradford completed an 18-yard pass to
Karson Douglas, then ran twice for 10 yards, including the last four for a touchdown. Kargozar added the extra point for a 17-9 lead.
The Scots scored again at the beginning of the fourth quarter when
Aedan Huntsman ran in from 18-yards out. With Kargozar's kick, Lyon College led 24-9 with 14:54 to play.
Missouri Baptist was only able to get another field goal with at the 10:39 mark to make it 24-12.Â
The running of
Jaylin Babers and Bradford on the last series for Lyon took off nearly six minutes of the clock, before punting the ball back to Missouri Baptist with 58 seconds left in the game.
For the game, Bradford was 10-of-22 passing for 77 yards. Babers led the rushing attack with 20 carries for 75 yards and Brown had six catches for 39 yards.
Defensively,
Mason Davis led Lyon College with eight solo tackles and two assisted tackles. Cameron Scarlet had six solo tackles and
Nate Sarver had five tackles.
