Box Score BATESVILLE, AR. - The Lyon College Scots volleyball team rallied for a 3-1 win over Crowley's Ridge on Tuesday night at Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville.
The Scots won the first set 35-33 and the second set 25-21 before dropping the third set 25-22. In the fourth set, Lyon College broke out to a 6-0 lead and finished off the match with a 25-18 victory.
The Scots battled in a hard-fought 35-33 win in their first set of the season after edging out to an early 8-7 lead on kills from
Kylee Sabella,
Samantha Ferguson,
Natalia Szymanska off of sets from
Cassidy Garrett and
Madeline Hopson. Defensively,
Erin Haigwood held her own in digs, while
Paeton Tucker fired off kills and tip overs to put the Scots up 24-23. Later in the first set,
Isabella Beasley and Ferguson combined for a block to gain the advantage 34-33, then
Jayden Hughes and Ferguson blocked the ball for the final point.
In the second set, the Beasley, Szymanska, Sabella, Ferguson and Tucker dominated the front row in a 25-21 win. Beasley and Hopson combined for a set and attack point, then Garrett and Szymanska fought off an attack with a near perfect set and kill, respectively.Â
The third set saw Crowley's Ridge take a 5-0 lead before Lyon College rallied back to keep the game close. Throughout the mid-way point of the set, Ferguson had a kill, Sabella came up with two kills in a row to keep the Scots close and tie the game at 15-15. Crowley's Ridge managed to build a 21-19 lead and went on to take the set 25-22.
In the final set of the night, Sabella dominated with kills off of sets from Hopson and Garrett. Hughes served for four straight points, while Szymanska and Ferguson combined for block points. Szymanska came up with a kill at the midway point to break an 18-18 tie and the Scots rallied to win the next six points in a row to take the match.
Lyon College volleyball will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Philander Smith tournament in Little Rock.Â
