WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots baseball team scored 11 runs in the final three innings, including a 5-run top of the ninth inning, to defeat host Williams Baptist 18-8 on Friday afternoon in American Midwest Conference play at Walnut Ridge.
The Scots improved to 23-14 overall and are 7-3 in the AMC. Williams Baptist drops to 17-18 with the loss.
After WBU had a 1-0 lead after one inning, Lyon College picked up a run when
Logan Doody singled in
Jayden Cull to tie the game in the top of the second inning.
Williams Baptist took a 3-1 lead entering the top of the third inning when West doubled to centerfield to score
Aaron Hurd and
Alec White singled to center to bring in West and tie the game 3-3.
Williams Baptist went up 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning, but in the top of the fifth, White scored on a passed ball and Cull scored when
Chris Lara reached on an error. Doody doubled in Lara and
Joe Weatherford singled in
Derek Underwood to put the Scots up 7-5.
Even though Williams Baptist scored in the sixth to cut the lead to one, the Scots tacked on four more runs to go up 11-5. Weatherford singled in Doody and
Zach Ellis and Hurd hit a two-run homer that scored Weatherford.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Williams Baptist closed to within 11-8.
In the top of the eighth,
Troy Strack hit a sacrifice grounder that scored Lara and Weatherford reached on an error that scored Lara for a 13-8 Scots lead.
In the ninth, Cull reached first on an error and West scored on the play. Cull scored on a wild pitch, then Strack singled in
Zach Ellis. Hurd singled in
Kaden Doan and Strack for an 18-8 Scots advantage.
Lyon College will be in action tomorrow in a double-header at Williams Baptist beginning at noon.
