COLUMBIA, Missouri - The Lyon College Scots baseball team dropped an 8-3 decision to the William Woods Owls at a high school baseball field in Columbia, Missouri on Friday afternoon to start the American Midwest Conference series.
The Scots (29-18) are 12-4 in the AMC and a half-game behind Columbia College, who leads the league at 12-3.Â
The day started off promising with
Joe Weatherford hitting a solo homer over the center field fence in the first inning. Later in the inning,
Alec White doubled in
Trey West for a 2-0 Lyon College lead.
William Woods tied the game in the bottom of the second with a 2-run homer and scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to go up 5-3.
A solo homer in the sixth and a 2-run homer in the seventh inning made it an 8-2 William Woods lead.Â
White doubled in West again in the top of the ninth inning.
Ayden Heitmann suffered the loss for the Scots from the mound, giving up seven hits and five runs.
Nicholas Chaney pitched for 2.2 innings and
Jesse McGonigal finished out the game for Lyon College on the mound.Â
The same two teams will play a double-header at the William Woods in Fulton, Missouri beginning at noon.Â
