Scots softball sweeps Crowley's Ridge

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots softball team defeated the Crowley's Ridge Pioneers 3-0 and 9-1 in five innings to earn a sweep on Monday afternoon at House Field.

The Scots (11-21) took the lead in the first game in the bottom of the first inning when Megan Englehardt tripled to center field to bring in Addison Harmon. Later in the inning, MK Duffield hit a sacrifice grounder that brought in Englehardt for a 2-0 lead.

The Scots added another run in the bottom of the second inning when Harmon singled to left field to bring in Emily Martinez.

McKenzie Campbell was the winning pitcher for Lyon College, going seven innings and allowing three hits, no runs and struck out 11 batters.

Thanks to a grandslam home run from Kassidy Robinson in the bottom of the third inning, the Scots blitzed Crowley's Ridge 9-1 in a five-inning game.

The Pioneers took the initial lead 1-0, but Englehardt scored on a passed ball to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning.

Then, with the bases loaded for Robinson in the bottom of the third inning, she slapped a fast ball over the center field fence for a grand slam that scored Duffield, Englehardt and Harmon. Later in the third inning, Harmon singled to center field to bring in Georgia Holzer and Martinez for a 7-1 lead.

Lyon College ended the game in the bottom of the fifth when Martinez doubled to left field to bring in Jasmine Carlos and Harmon doubled to right field to bring in Sarah Jo Guerrero for a 9-1 lead.

Emilee Engles was the winning pitcher for the Scots going five innings and giving up four hits, one run and striking out four batters.
