Scots continue winning streak

The Lyon College Scots improved to 21-4 and leading the American Midwest Conference at 13-1 and extended their winning streak to 16 games after defeating the Central Baptist College Mustangs 56-44 in Conway on Tuesday night.
The Scots outscored CBC 34-21 in the second half to overcome a 24-22 halftime deficit. Jade Giron led Lyon with 15 points and scored her 1,001sth career point with a three-point basket at the 4:43 mark of the third quarter.  Giron also had eight rebounds and 10 assists.
Allison Byars had 10 points and five rebounds, while Paige Kelley scored nine points, Katie Turner had eight points and six rebounds, Kristen Baham scored six points and Marleigh Dodson added six points, while Haley Wesley added two points.
The Scots shot 20-of-53 from the field for 37.7 percent, they were 8-of-25 on three-pointers and made 8-of-11 free throws. The lead changed four times during the game and was tied once. Lyon's largest lead came at the 59 second mark of the fourth quarter at 17 points.
Dodson's three-pointer with 2:52 to go in the first quarter put the Scots up 11-9. Twenty-seconds later CBC tied the score and took the lead on a three-pointer with 37 seconds left in the period. The Mustangs led by as much as eight points, 19-11, but Byars made a three-pointer and put in a layup, then Giron scored to cut the lead to one point 19-18 with 4:54 to go before halftime.
Wesley's jumper put Lyon ahead and Byars added to it with a pull-up jumper. Central Baptist College made 3-of-4 and hit a layup with 36 seconds to go to lead 24-22 at halftime.
CBC led 29-23 in the third period, but Giron made a three-pointer and Turner made four free throws in a row to put Lyon ahead 30-29. After the Mustangs took the lead, Kelley made two free throws for a 34-31 lead after three periods.
Baham made a three-pointer, Giron scored and Turner all hit field goals. Giron made a three-pointer with 5:26 to go in the game for a 44-35 Scots lead. Baham added another three-pointer and Giron put in a layup. Turner and Kelley both made shots in the final minute to secure the win.
