ST. LOUIS, Missouri - The Lyon College Scots men's basketball season came to an end on Thursday night in a 75-54 loss to the Missouri Baptist University Spartans the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference tournament in St. Louis.
Missouri Baptist, the tournament's number one seed, only led 31-25 at halftime against an upstart Scot's team that was just off a victory over Harris-Stowe State in a play-in game. Trenton Bell led the Scots with 19 points, while Grant Patterson scored 16 points and John Paul Morgan added nine points and 12 rebounds.
Lyon College ends the season with a 10-20 overall record.
Missouri Baptist led 9-2 before Devin Halford sank a jump shot for the Scots. A few minutes later Bell made a shot bank shot to cut the Spartans lead to 20-8.
Missouri Baptist led by as much as 16 points in the first half, 26-10, with 8:14 to go in the first half. Gavin Brunson scored on a jump shot, Bell made three three-pointers in a row to cut the Spartans lead to five points., 26-21. Patterson put in a layup in the final seconds of the first half to keep the margin at six points.
Another basket by Brunson cut the lead to four points to start the second half and Jonathan Iliya made jumper in the lane. The Spartans went on a long run to go up 62-38 with 9:40 to go in the game.
