BATESVILLE, Ark – The Lyon College Scots continued its winnings streak to 17 games and improved their overall record to 22-4 and 14-1 in the American Midwest Conference standings after defeating the Stephens College Stars 62-43 on Thursday night at Becknell Gymnasium.
Paige Kelley led Lyon College with 24 points.
Jade Giron added eight points, eight assists and nine rebounds.
Katie Turner added eight points and six rebounds to lead the Scots.
The Stars were 13-of-49 from the field and 2-of-13 from the three-point line, but made 15-of-17 free throws. Lyon College was 22-of-56 and made 1-of-14 three-pointers, but the Scots were 17-of-20 from the free throw line for the game. The Scot scored 10 points from the paint, 11 points came off of turnovers, eight points were second chance and 30 points came from the bench. Lyon's largest lead was 21 points with 3:02 to go in the fourth quarter.
For the first two-and-half minutes of the first quarter, Stephens College led 1-0. Kelley scored with 7:25 to go in the first quarter and never relinquished the lead again. Kelley was fouled on the play and completed a standard three-point play and Giron hit a jumper and
Marleigh Dodson put in a basket.
Turner made two free throws and a jumper to put Lyon up by nine points, 15-9. Kelley scored inside three straight times for the Scots to end the quarter with the 21-8 lead.
Lyon College outscored the Stars 8-2 in the four minutes of the second quarter to open up a 19-point lead 29-10. Giron made three jumpers in a row for the Scots and Dodson added two free throws with four seconds left to go up 35-20. Stephens connected on a last second shot to cut the lead down to 13 by halftime.
Kelley completed a three-point play and made a layup inside for a 42-27 lead for the Scots with 7:42 to go in the quarter and didn't score again until
Haley Wesley put in a basket in the paint with 2:51 to play. Stephens College got as close as nine points, 46-37, but Ashley Reichart scored and Wesley made two free throws.
Kristen Baham put in a jump shot with 34 seconds to go in the third quarter for a 50-36 lead.
Kelley hit two baskets in a row and
Allison Byars made a free throw and added a layup for a 62-41 lead.
