BATESVILLE, Ark. -
Allison Byars scored a season-high 33 points to lead the Lyon College Scots women's basketball team to an 83-65 win over the visiting Harris-Stowe Hornets in an American Midwest Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots (2-4, 2-2) outscored Harris-Stowe 18-16 in the first quarter, 23-13 in the second period to lead 41-29 at halftime. Lyon College won the third quarter 22-18 and the fourth, 20-18.
Paige Tate and
Savanna Lopez both had nine points,
Kristen Baham and
Autumn Enote had seven points each,
Blake Green scored five and
Kayla Richardson had four points.Â
Against the Hornets, the Scots scored 12 points in the paint, scored 23 points off of Harris-Stowe turnovers, had eight second chance points and got 27 points from the bench. The game was tied twice and there were two lead changes.
Byars and Richardson scored early on for a 7-4 Lyon College lead. Byars made a three-pointer, Lopez made a free throw and Enote made two free throws to keep the Scots in front 13-11. Baham had a layup, made a free throw and passed to
Natalya Kaza for a jumper for an 18-16 lead.
Tate made a jumper to start the second quarter, but Harris-Stowe came back to take a 20-18 lead. Baham scored, Byars hit a layup and Tate added a free throw for Lyon. Byars completed a three-point play and Lopez made two more free throws before Byars knocked down a four-point play. Tate scored, Enote hit a three-pointer and
Erin Haigwood scored on a short jump shot to make it 41-29 at halftime.Â
Tate scored, Baham made two free throws, Richardson hit a jumper and
Mari-Hanna Newsom made a three-pointer to make it 50-33, Scots. Byars made a jump shot, Lopez and Enote made free throws and Byars scored again fora 57-35 Lyon College lead. Lopez made two more free throws, Byars scored and Tate hit free throws for a 63-47 Scots lead after three quarters.
Byars completed a three-point play for a 22-point Lyon College lead.
Blake Green made a three-pointer, Byars made two layups in a row before Lopez scored.
Emily Harrison scored inside, Green hit on a layup and Lopez added a free throw.Â
