Lyon College basketball teams host Harris-Stowe

BATESVILLE, Ark - The Lyon College men's and women's basketball teams will host the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets in American Midwest Conference play at Becknell Gymnasium.

The women's game is scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m. and after the first basket by the Scots (1-4, 1-2), the United Way Angel Tree Fuzzy Toy Toss will take place. Lyon College is coming off an 82-68 loss on Thursday night to the Columbia Cougars at Becknell. After leading by 14 points at halftime, 46-32 behind 20 points from Mari-Hanna Newsom, the Scots lost the lead in the fourth quarter and were outscored 18-1 over a four-minute stretch late in the game. 

The Hornets (2-5, 1-1) are on a 2-game winning streak after defeating Hannibal-LaGrange (54-51) and Simmons College (72-51). Harris-Stowe opened the season 0-5, which included a 66-55 loss to Stephens College. 

Destiney Amaefula leads the Hornets with a 17.4 points per game average and gets 6.1 rebounds per contest, as well. Jala Smith averages 13.2 points per game and leads the Hornets with a 8.8 average in rebounds. 

The men's contest features the Scots (2-3, 0-2), who are coming off a tough home loss to Columbia College on Thursday (72-64). Trent Bell led Lyon College with 20 points, John Paul Morgan got his third double-double of the year with 14 points and 13 rebounds, Sando Hill scored 12 points and Nikola SaSaroga added 10. 

The Hornets come into the game winless in five games and 0-1 in the AMC after dropping a 58-56 decision at Hannibal-LaGrange. The Hornets are coming off exhibition game losses to Tennessee-Martin (96-53) and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (85-57), Lincoln University (78-49) and Pittsburg State (80-75). 

Alex Nunnally leads the Hornets with 13.4 points per game and 12.2 rebounds per game.
