BATESVILLE, Ark. - Trenton Bell scored 23 points, Sando Hill had 19 and Nikola SaSaroga scored 13 points to lead the Lyon College Scots by the visiting Blue Mountain Christian Toppers 76-69 on Tuesday night at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots (2-2) shot 55.2 percent for the game and made 8-of-20 three-pointers. Lyon College scored 18 points from the paint, seven points off of turnovers, 18 second-chance points and 10 points from the bench.Â
The Scots led 36-34 at halftime and outscored the Toppers 40-35 in the second half. Their largest lead was 10 points with 15:03 to go in the game.Â
Blue Mountain led 7-0 before SaSaroga broke free underneath the basket for a dunk. Bell sank his first three-pointer to make it 9-5, then two baskets from John Paul Morgan and a field goal from Bell tied the game 13-13 at the 13:14 mark.Â
Israel Palmer completed a three-point play for Lyon College and Bell hit another jumper. SaSaroga scored inside again then Hill completed a three-point play, had a dunk, hit a jumper and made two layups for 10 consecutive points for the Scots. Bell got a tip-in, then tied the game 32-32 on a jumper with 1:49 to go in the first half. Hill made steal and layup, then Morgan scored inside as time ran out to put Lyon College up 36-34.
Blue Mountain tied the game early in the second half, but Morgan stepped out for a three-pointer and SaSaroga completed a three-point play. Bell hit a three-pointer for a nine-point lead. Bell made another three-pointer to put the Scots up by 10 points and Luke Bridges put back an offensive rebound for a basket.Â
The Toppers cut the game to one point, 50-49, but a jumper from Hill and a three-pointer from Juwaun Clifton. Palmer converted a layup and Hill made a three-pointer for a 60-51 lead for Lyon College. SaSaroga scored inside and Bell made a three-pointer to push the Scots lead back to 10 points with 5:30 to go in the game. Bell's second three-pointer in as many possessions put the lead back to 10 points, 68-58. Hill, Delvonte McCloud and SaSaroga all scored baskets in the final two minutes for Lyon College.
