ST. LOUIS, Ark. - The Lyon College men's basketball team opens American Midwest Conference play this afternoon on the road in St. Louis to face the Missouri Baptist Spartans.
The Scots men are 1-1 overall with a season-opening loss to Arkansas Baptist (79-76) and a road win in Springdale, Ark. against Ecclesia College (82-74). Lyon College most recent outing was last Monday night in Jonesboro in an exhibition contest with the Arkansas State Red Wolves. The game is set for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
The Spartans (4-3, 1-0) opened with losses to Evangel University (84-63) and MidAmerica Nazarene University (95-61). Since then, Missouri Baptist is currently on a three-game winning streak that began against St. Ambrose University (74-62), followed with a win at College of the Ozarks (78-64) and a win against Grand View University (92-87, OT) last Friday. However, the winning streak was stopped by Peru State College, who defeated the Spartans last Saturday (85-80).
Missouri Baptist hosted William Woods on Tuesday night in its AMC-opener and defeated the Owls 60-58 on a last-second tip-in at the buzzer.
The Spartans leader, Brendon Hardy, scored 35 points against Peru State and is averaging 18.2 points per game. Tyrell Andrews is averaging 13.3 points per game, while Bryce Johnson is at 9.2 points per game and Jadis White is at 8.8 points a game. White led the Spartans with 12 points against William Woods and Andrews had 11 points.
