FORT WORTH, Texas - The Lyon College Scots football team will be kick off their in their final Sooner Athletic Conference game at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Farrington Field against the Texas Wesleyan Rams.
The Scots (1-8, 0-8) are coming off a 50-3 loss in Pineville, Louisiana against Louisiana Christian last weekend. The Rams (8-2, 6-2) are fresh off a 61-7 win over North American University in non-conference action last weekend.Â
In the SAC, Texas Wesleyan has defeated Arizona Christian 48-21 and Oklahoma Panhandle State 52-0, but lost to Ottawa University 27-22, came back to defeat Wayland Baptist 59-16, won over Southwestern Assemblies of God University 35-0, beat Langston 53-28, then dropped a 33-9 decision at Louisiana Christian before beating Texas College 40-12.
Last week against North American, the Rams racked up 485 yards of total offense and led 29-0 at halftime. Individually, Texas Wesleyan was led by quarterback Carson Rodgers, who completed 14-of-23 passes for 240 yards and threw for four touchdowns. Kobe Gatson came in as Rodgers backup and completed 3-of-4 passes for 37 yards and threw for a score. In the rushing game, the Rams were led by Earnest Ceasar, who ran 17 times for 108 yards and scored twice. Ty Williams had 11 carries for 54 yards, while AJ San Miguel ran four times for 28 yards and scored a touchdown. In the receiving core for Texas Wesleyan, Alize Thomas had seven catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns, Ceasar had three catches for 54 yards and scored a touchdown, PJ Williams had three receptions for 39 yards and scored and AJ Bobb had two catches for 21 yards and had a touchdown.Â
Isaiah Bradford will be quarterbacking the Scots and his back-up
Brady Miller could see action, as well. Bradford as 6-of-18 for 66 yards through the air last week, while running backs
Jacob Ramirez had 11 carries for 26 yards, Bradford ran three times for 23 yards and
Reed Michna had six carries for 22 yards. Receiving-wise,
Reed Gonzales had one catch for 25 yards, Reginald Brown had two receptions for 20 yards,
DeVante White had one reception for 17 yards, while Derik Jackson and Ramirez both caught one pass each. Place kicker
Kevin Kargozar booted a 25-yard field goal last week against Louisiana Christian for Lyon College's only score in the game.Â
Defensively against Louisiana Christian,
Camden Clear had seven tackles,
Lawson Stockton and
Cameron Scarlett both had six tackles,
Andrew Easterwood had five and
Mason Davis recordedd four tackles.
Keidrick Wooten came up with a sack and had two tackles for losses.Â
Lyon College will be moving to the independent ranks next season, before becoming an affiliate member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)Â in 2024.Â
