BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College women's soccer season came to an abrupt end on Saturday afternoon in a rainy 7-0 loss to the Harris-Stowe Hornets at Huser Field.
The Scots (1-15, 0-8) trailed 6-0 at halftime.Â
Harris-Stowe scored in the seventh minute, the 18th minute, the 19th minute, the 21st minute, the 27th minute and the 28th minute of the first half, then the rains came.Â
The match was delayed for 30 minutes midway through the second period due to lightning in the area after Harris-Stowe had scored its seventh goal.
Goalkeeper
Rhyan Hioki made 10 saves for the Scots, but no Lyon College player made a shot on goal in the contest.Â
Abby Ponder,
Zoe Papazoglou,
Hailey Williams,
Alli Mead,
Emily Betzold,
Ashlyn Winters,
Kate Whitenton,
Taylor Hammons,
Addy Lovell and
Alexis Whitley all started for the Scots and battled the best they could for the entire game. Even when substitutes
Deaiveon Carter,
Destinee Flowers,
Alice Pellham,
Trinity Arrambide and
Julianna Novakovic came into the game, the effort stayed intense.Â
Harris-Stowe was powerful on offense, but at times, the Scots did move the ball across midfield and attacked. Unlucky in some ways, the Lyon College faithful watched their women battle the Hornets and the elements.Â
Despite winning only once this year, this group of Scots never quit and always gave 100 percent effort. For that, they will be remembered.
