BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College football Scots saw an 18-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, dissolve and the Texas College Steers pulled away for a 38-34 homecoming win Sooner Athletic Conference action at Pioneer Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Lyon College (1-6, 0-6) led 34-16 entering the fourth period, but the Steers (1-5, 1-4) scored 22 unanswered points to come away with the victory, disappointing the Scots homecoming crowd.
Texas College started the scoring in the game with a 36-yard pass for a touchdown and a two-point conversion. However,
Brady Miller quarterbacked the Scots down the field and capped off a 62-yard drive in 14 plays with a 1-yard sneak.
Kevin Kargozar added the extra point to make it 8-7 after the Scots seemingly tying the game on a two-point conversion that was called back on a holding penalty with 38 seconds to go in the first quarter.
After forcing a Steers punt,
DeVante White caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Miller, but the extra point attempt was blocked and Texas College returned it for a two-point conversion to make it a 13-10 Scots lead with 11:27 to go in the second quarter.
The Steers came back to take the lead 16-13 on a 2-yard pass to complete a 16-play, 90-yard drive. However, the Scots came back down the field, driving 63-yards in five plays that included a 39-yard catch and run by
Clifford Washington.
Jacob Ramirez ran for a 15-yard gain and Miller ran in the final three yards for a Lyon College touchdown to make it 19-13.
Brandon Johnson blocked a Texas College punt and the ball was recovered in the end zone for a Scots touchdown and Miller ran in the two-point conversion to make it 27-16 with 43 seconds to go before halftime.
The Steers turned the ball over on downs to start the third quarter and
Emerson Price rushed for a 25-yard gain and added four more yards to set up a 1-yard sneak from Miller. Kargozar added the extra point to make it 34-16 Scots with 9:36 left in the quarter.
Two plays into the fourth quarter, Texas College hit a 51-yard pass for a touchdown to make it 34-22 with 14:49 to play.Â
The Scots had a drive stall out at the Texas College 15 and turned the ball over on downs. Two plays later, The Steer had a 75-yard touchdown pass and added a two-point conversion to make it 34-30 with 7:45 to go.
Lyon College didn't move the ball on its next series, but Ramirez booted a 58-yard punt pinning the Steers on their own 1-yard line. However, one play later, Texas College converted a 99-yard touchdown pass and added the two-point conversion to take a 38-34 lead with 5:39 left on the clock.
On the ensuing drive for the Scots, Miller completed a nine-yard pass to
Xavier Long, Price rushed for 10 yards and Ramirez ran for a 14-yard gain to the Texas College 25 with 3:50 left. Three plays later and only two yards gained, Lyon College turned the ball over on downs.Â
Texas College managed to get a first down and took a knee to end the game.Â
