Lyon overtakes Central Baptist College 67-60

Five Scots score in double-figures

Five Lyon College Scots scored in double-figures in a 67-60 win over the Central Baptist College Mustangs on Tuesday night in women's play of the American Midwest Conference at Becknell Gymnasium.
Marleigh Dodson led Lyon with 15 points, Paige Kelley scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds for a double-double, Allison Byars scored 12 points, Kristen Baham added 11 and Jade Giron put in 10 points and had eight assists.  Aminata Seck led all scorers with 21 points and 12 rebounds and Riley Bridges scored 11 points in the loss.
Lyon held a 15-14 lead after the first quarter. Giron started the scoring with a layup in the paint, then Kelley put in a jumper inside. Dodson made a jump shot from the baseline, but Central Baptist came back to tie the game at 9-9 with 5:53 left in the quarter.
For the next three-and-a-half minutes, Lyon missed three three-pointers and finally scored on a fast-break layup from Byars with 2:22 to go in the first quarter. Baham made a three-pointers and Kelley put in one -of-two free throws, but the Mustangs came back and a last-second shot to fall to cut Lyon's lead to one point.
Nobody scored for the first two minutes of the second quarter until Giron made a free throw. Ashley Reichart made a steal and passed to Byars for a layup. Baham made a jump shot and Paige Tate made a jump shot for 23-19 lead.  Baham made a three-pointer to widen the lead to six, but within seconds CBC hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 26-26. The Mustangs outscored Lyon 9-2 to end the first half ahead 35-28.
The Scots came out of the break to outscore CBC 20-10. The Mustangs led by as much as 11 points, 40-29 early in the third quarter. Dodson made two free throws, then hit a 10-footer from the baseline again and Kelley made two free throws. Byars knocked down a three-pointer and Page put in a basket inside to tie the game 40-40. Byars put in a layup after making a steal to complete a 13-0 run for Lyon.
Central Baptist tied the game on free throws, but Byars and Baham both made three-pointers to extend the Scots lead to six points. The Mustangs managed to hit jump shot the buzzer to cut into Lyon's lead, 48-45.
Giron drove the lane for a layup, Kelley hit another jumper inside and Dodson scored. Central Baptist got as close as five points with 3:46 to go in the game, but Giron competed a three-point play with 1:47 left to put Lyon up 67-57.
