HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lyon College men's soccer team faced a top-25 team for the second game in a row on Monday afternoon against No. 18 Mobile. After defeating No. 13 William Carey on Saturday, 1-0, the Scots nearly pulled off a second upset but came up just short, 3-2, against the Rams.
Mobile improved to 4-1 with the win, while the Scots fell to 3-2.
The Scots struck first in the 16th minute of the game as Marcos Fernandez set a cross into the box that found the foot of Leo Galdino. Galdino laced a ball into the back of the net and put the Scots ahead, 1-0.
Mobile responded with three-unanswered goals before the end of the half and took a 3-1 lead into the break.
Lyon trimmed the deficit to one in the 69th minute as Tavaris Wellington received a pass from Mauro Garretano and scored his first goal of the season.
The Rams held the Scots off the rest of the way, however, as the score finished at 3-2 in favor of Mobile.
Galdino finished with three shots in the game to lead the Scots.
The Scots will travel to Mid-America Christian for a non-conference game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
