Box Score HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lyon College men's soccer team went on the road to face its toughest team on paper so far this season in No. 13 William Carey. The Scots were up to the challenge as Marcos Fernandez scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute in a 1-0 victory for Lyon.
The Scots improved to 3-1 with the win, while WCU fell to 4-2.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Scots take three shots compared to five by WCU, Lyon found the back of the net late in the second half. Mauro Garretano found Fernandez inside the WCU half as Fernandez took care of the rest and scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 77th minute.
Jorge Cayo took three shots in the game for the Scots, while Leo Galdino and Juan Araque took two shots each.
Bosco Pery recorded four saves in net in the shutout.
The Scots will conclude their road trip in Mississippi with a neutral-site game against No. 18 Mobile on Monday at 2 p.m.
