Women’s Soccer Drops Conference Opener at Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Lyon College women's soccer team hit the road this weekend to open up American Midwest Conference play against Missouri Baptist University, coming up short in a 4-1 defeat.

MBU took the lead inside the first 10 minutes of the game. Forward Mara George scored the goal for the Spartans. The Scots managed to bring the game back to even terms around the 30-minute mark. A nice combination between seniors, Sarah Evans with the assist to set up Hailey Gonzales made it 1-1 going into half time.

Unfortunately, Lyon College couldn't answer back to the attack of Missouri Baptist. After the score remained even for the first 15 minutes of the second half, MBU scored three goals inside 10 minutes (60, 65, 70) to put the game to bed, leaving the final score at 4-1.

Gonzales got her third goal for the season while Evans claimed her second assist of the season. Rhyan Hioki totalled seven saves in the game.

Lyon College is now 2-4-0 for the season and 0-1 in conference, while Missouri Baptist went 3-6-0 and 1-0 in conference.

Next up for the Lyon College women's soccer team is a non-conference home matchup against Hendrix College on Sept. 29 at 5pm in Batesville, Ark.
