ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The (RV) Lyon College men's soccer team started off their American Midwest Conference play this weekend with a big time 1-0 shutout win over Missouri Baptist University, with the victory potentially being a season defining moment already, if previous years are anything to go by.
The Scots showed they were ready to battle in the first half and wanted to make their presence known. Despite some chances, neither side could break the dead-lock as the score was all even going into the half.
More of the same it seemed in the second half. With the game seemingly looking like it was heading into overtime as the afternoon progressed, a glimmer of hope arose when a nice combination between
Marcos Fernandez and
Carlos Carvalho allowed for
Juan Araque to pick up his first conference goal for the Scots. Lyon managed to hold on tight for the remaining 10-plus minutes of the game and maintain a shutout victory.
The Scots improved to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the AMC with the win, while MBU fell to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the AMC.
Araque scored one goal for the day - his first of the season.
Marcos Fernandez and
Carlos Carvalho were credited with one assist each. Bosco Perry totaled five saves and one shutout.
Next up for the Scots is a return to St. Louis for their second AMC Conference matchup on October 2nd as they travel to Harris-Stowe at 3pm.
