Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Illinois College on The Road

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Lyon College Scots women's soccer team set foot on the road this weekend, as they bounced back against Illinois College, beating them by a final score of 2-0.

The fighting Scots seemed to come out with the grit between their teeth this time around, as a dominant first half saw them rack up a total shot count of 12 inside the first 45 minutes alone. Hailey Gonzales came close early on with her bold free kick just coming off the wrong side of the woodwork. The Scots finally got what they deserved in the 17th minute of the half after a tidy finish from Aisha Mahmoud put the Scots up 1-0.

The Scots weren't satisfied with their one goal lead going into the break though, as five minutes into the second half Hailey Gonzales found the back of the net for her second goal of the season. A much stronger showing defensively this time out, in addition to the return of freshman goalkeeper, Rhyan Hioki, meant the Lyon College women's soccer team was able to hold onto their first shutout win of the season.

The Scots got their first win of the season moving on to 1-3. Illinois College is now sitting at 1-4 for their efforts.

Hailey Gonzales led the way with a total of 10 shots, four of which on target and one goal for the day. Aisha Mahmoud also tallied one goal - her first of the season. Rhyan Hioki finished the game with four saves and one clean sheet.

The Scots look to keep the momentum going, when they will return to action on Saturday, September 18, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, against Bacone College. The midweek clash against LSUA, which was scheduled for September 15 has been cancelled.
