COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Lyon College softball team defeated the eight-seeded Stephens College Stars, 13-1, and three-seeded Missouri Baptist University Spartans by a score of 4-2.
Lyon moves to 16-26 overall. Stephens College finishes the year at 9-20, while Missouri Baptist University concludes their season at 15-14 overall.
Game One: No. 6 Lyon 13, No. 8 Stephens 1 (5 Inn.)
The Scots wasted no time in this one as
Addison Harmon drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the first inning. A
Kassidy Robinson infield single and an error by Stephens College loaded the bases with no outs.
Cheyenne Herrera, then, smacked a 2-RBI double to left field, scoring Harmon and Robinson. After a one-out walk to
Riley Shaw,
Alyssa Buentello delivered a 2-RBI single to center, giving Lyon a 4-0 lead. A
Madison Sansom sacrifice fly and a 2-RBI double by
Addison Harmon would extend Lyon's lead to seven after one inning of play.
Lyon would tack on a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by
Riley Shaw and an RBI double by
Melanie Mooney. The Scots would take a 9-0 lead heading into the third inning.
Stephens College would scratch across a run in the top of the third inning on an RBI double by Olivia Williams, plating Lyndsey Hood.
The Scots, though, would score four more runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by a
Cheyenne Herrera 2-run home run, giving Lyon a 13-1 lead after three innings of play.
Lyon would keep the Stephens College bats under control, en route to a 13-1 run-rule victory over the Stars on Thursday morning.
Addison Harmon,
Kassidy Robinson, and
Cheyenne Herrera led the way for the Scots offensively as they combined to go 7-for-8 in the contest with seven runs scored and seven RBI's.
Olivia Floyd and
McKenzie Campbell combined to hold the Stars to just one run over five innings of work.
Game Two: No. 6 Lyon 4, No. 3 Missouri Baptist University 2,
Lyon got on the scoreboard first with a solo home run by
Addison Harmon to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Scots until the top of the third inning. MBU used a pair of RBI singles by Shelby Sievers and Allison Pingel to take a 2-1 lead.
The Scots, though, responded with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Addison Harmon uncorked a solo home run over the left field fence, knotting the game at two. With two outs in the frame,
Cheyenne Herrera delivered a 2-run home run over the right field fence, giving Lyon a 4-2 lead.
The score would remain 4-2 in favor of the Scots heading into the top of the seventh inning.
Katelyn Platt made quick work of the Spartans as she retired MBU in order, earning Lyon a 4-2 victory over Missouri Baptist University on Thursday.
Addison Harmon and
Cheyenne Herrera led the way for the Scots offensively as Harmon hit a pair of solo home runs, while Herrera delivered a 2-run home run.
Katelyn Platt kept the MBU hitters off balance all game as she earned the complete-game victory, while striking out five.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots continue play in the AMC tournament on Friday. Lyon will take on William Woods University at 12:00 p.m.
