ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lyon College softball team split with Missouri Baptist University on Saturday. The Scots won the first game by a score of 1-0, while MBU won the second game, 9-3.
Lyon moves to 5-21 overall, 2-6 in the AMC, while Missouri Baptist University is now 6-6 on the year, 3-1 in the AMC.
Game One: Lyon 1, Missouri Baptist 0
The game remained scoreless until the top of the second inning.
Riley Shaw hit an infield single with one out in the frame. After a wild pitch put Shaw on second base,
Alyssa Buentello delivered an RBI single to left field, giving Lyon a 1-0 lead.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the visitors from Batesville as the Spartans came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh. The Spartans put the tying run on base with one out in the frame, but
Katelyn Platt was up to the challenge as she would retire the final two batters of the game via strikeout and pop out, respectively.
Offensively,
Alyssa Buentello and
Riley Shaw paced the Scots as each went 2-for-3 in the contest.
Katelyn Platt was dominant in the circle for the Scots as she threw a complete-game shutout, while striking out seven.
Game Two: Missouri Baptist 9, Lyon 3
The Scots scratched a run across in the first inning.
Kortanie Ruhland and
Kassidy Robinson opened the game with a pair of singles. A walk of
Celsey Wood loaded the bases.
Anna Beth Conditt laid down a perfect bunt, scoring one Scot and giving Lyon a 1-0 advantage.
Missouri Baptist answered back with two runs in the bottom of the second inning on a pair of RBI singles by Skyler Ruiz and Madalyn Bone.
MBU would tack on four runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by an Allison Pingel 2-run home run. The Spartans would take a 6-1 lead after three innings of play.
In the top of the fourth inning,
Sarah Jo Guerrero legged out an infield single with one out in the frame.
Olivia Floyd, then, yanked an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Guerrero.

Kortanie Ruhland, trimming MBU's lead to three.
MBU would score a run of their own in the fourth inning on an Allison Pingel RBI single, extending MBU's lead to four.
The Spartans would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Madalyn Bone singled up the middle, scoring Katlyn Turbyfill. Bone would later come around to score on an error, giving MBU a 9-3 lead after five innings of play.
The Scots were unable to get anything going in the final two innings and fell to Missouri Baptist University by a score 9-3.
Offensively,
Kortanie Ruhland paced the Scots as she was 2-for-4 in the contest with an RBI.

The Scots travel to Paragould, Arkansas for a road non-conference doubleheader against Crowley's Ridge College on Monday, April 5. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
