Lyon College Softball defeated Missouri Baptist University, 1-0, in game one and lost to the Spartans in game two, 9-3

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lyon College softball team split with Missouri Baptist University on Saturday. The Scots won the first game by a score of 1-0, while MBU won the second game, 9-3.

Game One: Lyon 1, Missouri Baptist 0
The game remained scoreless until the top of the second inning. Riley Shaw hit an infield single with one out in the frame. After a wild pitch put Shaw on second base, Alyssa Buentello delivered an RBI single to left field, giving Lyon a 1-0 lead.

The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the visitors from Batesville as the Spartans came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh. The Spartans put the tying run on base with one out in the frame, but Katelyn Platt was up to the challenge as she would retire the final two batters of the game via strikeout and pop out, respectively.

Offensively, Alyssa Buentello and Riley Shaw paced the Scots as each went 2-for-3 in the contest. Katelyn Platt was dominant in the circle for the Scots as she threw a complete-game shutout, while striking out seven.

Missouri Baptist answered back with two runs in the bottom of the second inning on a pair of RBI singles by Skyler Ruiz and Madalyn Bone.

MBU would tack on four runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by an Allison Pingel 2-run home run. The Spartans would take a 6-1 lead after three innings of play.

In the top of the fourth inning, Sarah Jo Guerrero legged out an infield single with one out in the frame. Olivia Floyd, then, yanked an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Guerrero. Olivia Floyd would come around to score on a single by Kortanie Ruhland, trimming MBU's lead to three.
