Scots Earn Run-Rule and Walk-off Victories Over UHSP

Lyon College Softball defeated University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, 13-3 and 10-8

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team swept the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis on Sunday. The Scots won the first game by a score of 13-3 and the second game by a score of 10-8.

Lyon improves to 11-21 overall, 6-6 in the AMC, while University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis is now 4-14, 3-7 on the year.

Game One: Lyon 13, UHSP 3 (5 Inn.)
The Scots opened the scoring in the first inning. Kortanie Ruhland led off the frame with a single to right field. Kassidy Robinson, then, crushed a 2-run home run over the left field fence, giving Lyon a 2-0 lead. After a Celsey Wood triple, Riley Shaw delivered an RBI single, scoring Wood and increasing Lyon's advantage to three.  

UHSP would answer back with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning on a 2-run home run by Lauren Wright, cutting Lyon's lead to just one.

The Scots, though, responded with a big inning as Jasmine Carlos and Jena Vavasseur hit a double and triple, respectively. With two outs in the inning, Celsey Wood deposited a 1-0 fastball over the right field fence, giving Lyon an 8-2 lead.

The Eutectics would scratch a run across in the top of the fourth inning as Ashton Harre led off the frame with a single and later came around to score.

Lyon, though, would put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth inning, highlighted by a 3-RBI triple by Kassidy Robinson, giving Lyon a 13-3 run-rule victory over the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis on Sunday.

Offensively, Celsey Wood and Kassidy Robinson combined for five hits, eight RBI's, and four runs scored, including a pair of home runs. McKenzie Campbell kept the UHSP batters off balance all afternoon as she earned the complete-game victory, while striking out three.

Game Two: Lyon 10, UHSP 8
The Eutectics opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as UHSP sent eight batters to the plate, while scoring four runs on four hits.  

Lyon, though, would answer right back with a big inning of their own. The Scots would send ten batters to the dish, while scoring five runs, highlighted by a pair of 2-RBI doubles by Celsey Wood and Jasmine Carlos.

UHSP would score three more runs in the top of the second inning as the visitors from St. Louis were able to string together four hits and took advantage of an error, giving UHSP a 7-5 lead.

The Scots scratched a run across in the bottom half of the frame on a Jena Vavasseur RBI single, scoring Cheyenne Herrera and trimming Lyon's deficit to just one.

Lyon would knot the game at seven in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Celsey Wood, plating Kassidy Robinson.

The Eutectics retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Bear Wood.

The score would remain 8-7 in favor of the Eutectics until the bottom of the seventh inning. An infield single by Kassidy Robinson and a walk of Celsey Wood put runners on first and second with one out. Cheyenne Herrera tattooed an 0-1 pitch over the center field fence for a 3-run home run, earning Lyon a 10-8 walk-off victory over the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis Eutectics on Sunday.

Offensively, the 2-3-4-5 hitters for the Scots were phenomenal as they combined to go 10-for-14 with nine runs scored and seven RBI's in the contest. Shyanne Pedroza was great in relief as she gave up one earned run over six innings of action, while striking out two and picking up the win.  

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots travel to Missouri to face William Woods University in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 17. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
