Football Faces SAGU in Home Opener Saturday

The Scots will host SAGU on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College football team dropped its season opener last weekend at Wayland Baptist, 10-0. The Scots will now return home for the first time this spring and host Southwestern Assemblies of God University in another Sooner Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium. The Scots are 3-2 all-time against the Lions after earning a 38-22 victory in Waxahachie, Texas, on Oct. 12, 2019.

Spectators for Lyon College Athletic home events will be limited to Lyon College faculty, staff and students (must show Lyon ID), as well as two family members (including children) for Lyon College student-athletes competing at the event (must present card to enter). Gates open 30 minutes prior to the start of each contest. Masks must be worn at all times and temperature checks upon entrance. Fans will be unable to enter after 30 minutes following kick-off. Admission prices are ages 7 and over - $5, while ages 6 and under are free.

 

THE MATCHUP

LYON: The Scots fell to 0-1 overall and in the Sooner Athletic Conference following their season-opening loss at Wayland Baptist last weekend.

Isiaiah Bradford completed 11-of-28 passes for 130 yards and one interception against the Pioneers. Bradford is in line to get the start at quarterback again for the Scots today. Jeremiah Bigham led the receiving corps with three passes for 58 yards, while Dakota Braswell rushed 11 times for 36 yards.

Defensively, Cole Peppers led the Scots with 12 total tackles against WBU.

SAGU: The Lions enter Saturday's matchup at 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAC after defeating (RV) Langston on the road last week by a score of 31-20.

Jordan Barlow will once again get the start at quarterback for the Lions. This season, Barlow has completed 52-of-92 passes for 736 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. Barlow's favorite targets this season have been Keaton Dubik and Jamal Long. Dubik leads SAGU with 10 receptions for 115 yards, while Long has caught seven passes and leads the team with 149 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions. On the ground, Zarious Keyes has rushed 533 times for 209 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Keandre Belcher is the player to watch for SAGU. Belcher leads the team with 16 total tackles with 4.5 tackles-for-loss and 1.5 sacks.

 

UP NEXT

Following Saturday's game against SAGU, the Scots will travel to No. 24 Arizona Christian for a road conference game on Mar. 13 at 2 p.m. (central time).
