Scots Tripped up by Stars in Five Sets

Lyon College Volleyball Lost to Stephens College this Afternoon

BATESVILLE, Ark.  The Lyon College volleyball team was back on the court for an American Midwest Conference contest against Stephens College. The Scots and Stars exchanged leads throughout the match, but the Stars won the fifth and decisive set to earn the victory.

Lyon moves to 4-7 on the year and 0-2 in the AMC, while Stephens College improves to 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.

GAME FLOW
After dropping the first set, the Scots found their rhythm to take a 14-11 lead midway through the second frame. The Stars would storm back and tie the score at 19 apiece in the later stages of the set. The Scots, though, found their stride and converted on six of the next eight rallies to take the second set, 25-21.

Lyon carried the momentum they gained in the final stages of the second set into the third stanza as the hosts took a 14-10 lead after a kill by Alley Edwards, assisted by Kaitlyn Jackson. The visitors from Missouri battled their way back into the set and took a lead, 23-21, just two points away from taking the third set. The Scots, though, continued to win the clutch points to retake the lead, 28-27. Then, Maggee Hobson secured the third set for the hosts with one of her 23 kills on the day, assisted by Kendra Davidson.

Stephens College tied the match at two sets apiece after winning the fourth frame, 25-19, to set up the all-decisive fifth set. The Stars jumped out to a 12-8 advantage. However, the Scots answered back with a quick 3-0 run to cut the deficit to just one point. The Stars, though, proved to be too much for Lyon this afternoon as the visitors won the fifth set, 15-12, to secure the match.
