BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team played William Woods University in the Scots' conference opener tonight inside Becknell Gymnasium. The Owls won the pivotal points late in each of the first two sets to help earn the victory over the Scots (25-22, 25-22, 25-12).  

Lyon moves to 4-6 on the season and 0-1 in the American Midwest Conference, while William Woods University improves to 2-1 in the season and 2-0 in conference play.  

GAME FLOW
The Scots were clicking on all cylinders early as the hosts sprinted out to a 15-9 lead after a Levia Taegtmeyer kill, assisted by Kaitlyn Jackson. The Owls, though, quickly trimmed Lyon's advantage to just one point, 17-16. Both sides would exchange points until WWU won five of the final six points to take the first set, 25-22.

Like the first set, the Scots got off to another quick start in the second frame. A kill by Layne Smith off an assist by Kendra Davidson put the hosts up 11-4. However, WWU used an 8-0 run to take a 12-11 advantage. The Scots, though would battle back and retake the lead on a couple occasions. However, the Owls once again used a late run to take a two-set advantage, 25-22.

Lyon tried to put something together in the third set to mount a comeback. However, WWU's length and athleticism at the net proved be to much for the Scots as the Owls claimed the third set, 25-12, and the match, 3-0.  

KEY STATISTICS
- Adia Sherbeyn tallied a team-high 14 digs.     
- Layne Smith accounted for seven kills in the contest.  
- WWU bested the Scots in kills, 34-28.    

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots will return to the court tomorrow for an American Midwest Conference match against Stephens College. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. inside Becknell Gymnasium.
