BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's soccer team kicks off the season on Sunday in Louisiana. The Scots will take on Louisiana State University-Alexandria at 2:30 p.m.
The Matchup
Louisiana State University-Alexandria: This will be the second game of the season for the LSU-Alexandria Generals, after falling to University of Mobile on Thursday by a score of 1-0. The Generals, a member of the Red River Athletic Conference, finished fifth in the RRAC with an overall record of 11-5-4. LSU-Alexandria concluded the season in the second round of the RRAC tournament as they fell to (RV) University of Houston-Victoria. The Generals return Samuel Ogunjobi and Alan Albornoz. Ogunjobi appeared in all 20 matches and scored five goals, while Albornoz tallied a team-high six assists. LSU-Alexandria will also lean on their goalkeeper, Alvaro Garcia, who recorded a team high 71 saves in 2019.
Lyon College: The Lyon College Scots return to the pitch Sunday for the 2020-21 campaign after compiling an impressive 15-6-1 record last season. The Scots earned an automatic berth to the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round in 2019 after finishing second in the American Midwest Conference (AMC). This was the second appearance in the Opening Round and first since 2015. Lyon will be led up front by
Marcos Fernandez and
Raimundo Cabello. Fernandez recorded an AMC-best 16 assists to go along with 14 goals scored last season, while Cabello tallied 10 goals on the year. Lyon will also lean on first team all-conference members in
Jonathan Carrere and
Leo Galdino. Carrere led the defense of the Scots and helped Lyon post seven shutouts in the 2019 campaign, while Galdino scored five goals and posted four assists on the season. The Scots will rely on goalkeeper,
Vicente Alamos, who led the team last year with 78 saves, including six clean sheets.

Lyon is 1-2-1 all-time against LSU-Alexandria, with their most recent meeting being in 2019 as the Generals defeated the Scots by a score of 1-0.
