PLAINVIEW, Texas – The Lyon College football team returned to the gridiron for the first time in 15 months on Saturday at Wayland Baptist. The Scots battled against the Pioneers, but fell by a score of 10-0 in their season opener.
After a scoreless first quarter, Wayland Baptist struck first early in the second quarter. A 20-yard pass from Brook Quinones to Skyler Whitten put the Pioneers inside Lyon College territory before Quinones connected on a 17-yard pass to Jasiah Barron later in the drive. Jaden Miles put WBU in the red zone with a 19-yard rush before Christian Vaughn scored on a three-yard rush to give the Pioneers a 7-0 lead.
Wayland Baptist added the final points of the game 26-yard field goal by Jeffery Lucido in its first possession of the fourth quarter.
Isaiah Bradford completed 11-of-28 passes for 130 yards and threw one interception. Jeremiah Bigham caught three passes for 58 yards, while Dakota Braswell rushed 11 times for 36 yards.
Defensively, Cole Peppers collected 12 total tackles for the Scots.
The Scots will return to Pioneer Stadium next Saturday and host Southwestern Assemblies of God at 2 p.m.
