Men’s Basketball Set to Face Columbia in AMC Championship Semifinals

The top-seeded Lyon College men’s basketball team will host No. 4-seed Columbia College on Saturday in the semifinals of the AMC Championship

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The No. 1-seed Lyon College men's basketball took care of business and defeated No. 8-seed William Woods, 63-51, in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference Championship on Thursday night. With their win, the Scots will now host No. 4-seed Columbia College in the semifinals at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Becknell Gymnasium.

Effective Thursday, February 25: Spectators for Lyon College Athletic home events will be limited to Lyon College faculty, staff and students (must show Lyon ID), as well as two family members (including children) for Lyon College student-athletes competing at the event (must present card to enter). Gates open 30 minutes prior to the start of each contest. Masks must be worn at all times and temperature checks upon entrance. Admission for the AMC Basketball Championship is $5 per adults and Lyon College faculty/staff and $2 for Lyon College students and children under the age of 12. Fans will be unable to enter after 20 minutes following the start of each contest.

 

THE MATCHUP
LYON: 
The Scots improved to 11-4 on the season and extended their current winning streak to seven games following their quarterfinals victory against the Owls. Faris Verlasevic and Chris Craig finished as the top scorers against WWU as Verlasevic netted a game-high 16 points, while Craig added 14. Craig just missed out on his second double-double of the season as he grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in the win.

CC: Columbia College (16-6) advanced to the semifinals following an 81-70 victory against No. 5-seed Williams Baptist. Four Cougars finished in double figures scoring in the win against the Eagles, led by Tony Burks' game-high 19 points. Burks also pulled down 10 rebounds to secure a double-double. Jack Fritsche scored 17 points, while Harrison Vickers and Carson Parker added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

SERIES HISTORY
The Scots are 5-29 all-time against the Cougars. Lyon and Columbia split their two regular season meetings with the home team winning each game. The Scots and Cougars last met on Feb. 13, when Lyon earned a 56-54 win over CC in Batesville.

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The winner of Saturday's semifinals matchup between the Scots and Cougars will take on the winner of No. 2-seed Central Baptist College and No. 3-seed Missouri Baptist in the championship game of the AMC Championship on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tuesday's game will be hosted by the higher seed in the matchup with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid to the National Tournament Opening Round.
