Scots Host Spartans in Semifinals of AMC Championship

The top-seeded Lyon College women’s basketball team will host No. 4-seed Missouri Baptist on Friday in the semifinals of the AMC Championship

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College women's basketball team took care of business in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference Championship as the No. 1-seed Scots defeated No. 8-seed William Woods, 58-45. The Scots will now prepare to face No. 4-seed Missouri in the semifinals of the AMC Championship on Friday at 7 p.m. at Becknell Gymnasium.

Effective Thursday, February 25: Spectators for Lyon College Athletic home events will be limited to Lyon College faculty, staff and students (must show Lyon ID), as well as two family members (including children) for Lyon College student-athletes competing at the event (must present card to enter). Gates open 30 minutes prior to the start of each contest. Masks must be worn at all times and temperature checks upon entrance. Admission for the AMC Basketball Championship is $5 per adults and Lyon College faculty/staff and $2 for Lyon College students and children under the age of 12. Fans will be unable to enter after 20 minutes following the start of each contest.

 

 

THE MATCHUP

LYON: The Scots improved to 11-1 with their win against William Woods on Wednesday night. Mari-Hanna Newsom scored a game-high 15 points, while Jade Giron (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Paige Kelley (11 points, 11 rebounds) recorded a double-double each in the win. Giron had another near triple-double as she tallied seven assists on the night. Katie Turner just missed out on a double-double as she ended with 10 points and nine rebounds.

 

MBU: Missouri Baptist improved to 17-5 on the season following an 84-42 victory against No. 5-seed Harris-Stowe in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night. Four Spartans scored in double figures in the win against the Hornets, led by Tionne Taylor's game-high 19 points. Taylor Norris finished second with 15 points, while Lauren Ebert and Alexis Allstun added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

 

SERIES HISTORY

The Scots are 20-0 all-time against the Spartans. Lyon defeated Missouri Baptist, 82-69, on Jan. 9, in the lone meeting between the two programs this season in St. Louis.

 

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS

The winner of Friday's contest will face the winner of No. 2-seed Columbia College and No. 6-seed Central Baptist College on Mar. 1 in the championship game of the AMC Championship. Tip-off for the game on Mar. 1 is set for 7 p.m.
