BATESVILLE, Ark. – Coming off the program's first regular season conference title in nearly 40 years, the Lyon College men's basketball team will begin its quest for an American Midwest Conference Tournament championship as the top-seeded Scots host No. 8-seed William Woods in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 7 p.m.

THE MATCHUPS
LYON: The Scots finished the regular season at 10-4 overall and 8-2 in the American Midwest Conference and earned the program's first conference regular season title since the 1982-83 season. On Wednesday, Lyon became one of the teams receiving votes in the final NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. Three Scots finished the regular season averaging double figures scoring, led by Cole Anderson's 10.9 points per game. Ray Price was second on the team at 10.6 points per game, followed by Dominique Loyd, who averaged 10.1 points per game. Loyd dropped a career-high 27 points in the Scots' 91-78 victory over Central Baptist College to clinch to conference regular season title.
WWU: William Woods defeated Harris-Stowe, 70-40, on Tuesday evening in the Opening Round of the AMC Championship and improved to 7-7 overall after going 6-5 in conference play during the regular season. Makenzie Fessler is the leading scorer for WWU, averaging a team-high 14.0 points per game. Fessler scored a game-high 15 points in the Opening Round victory against Harris-Stowe. In the lone matchup against Lyon this season, Fessler scored 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field.
SERIES HISTORY
The Scots lead the all-time series, 9-8, over the Owls after defeating William Woods, 65-51, earlier this season on Jan. 16 in Batesville.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The winner of Thursday's quarterfinals matchup between the Scots and Owls will take on the winner of No. 4-seed Columbia College and No. 5-seed Williams Baptist on Saturday at 3 p.m. Saturday's game will be hosted by the higher seed in the matchup.
