BATESVILLE, Ark. – Faris Verlasevic led all scorers with a season-high 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field as the Lyon College men's basketball team cruised to a 68-44 American Midwest Conference victory against Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots improved their record to 9-4 overall and 7-2 in the AMC and will host (RV) Central Baptist College on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. for a shot at the AMC Regular-Season Championship. HLGU fell to 4-18 and 3-11 in the AMC with the loss.
A three-pointer by Dominique Loyd broke a 4-4 tie and sparked a 17-3 run for the Scots as Lyon led, 21-7 with 6:54 left the first half. Hannibal-LaGrange managed to cut the deficit in half just two minutes later before five points by Verlasevic put the Scots back up by double digits, 26-16. HLGU added a free throw with a second left in the first half as Lyon took a 26-17 advantage into the break.
It was all Lyon in the second half as a three-pointer by Verlasevic pushed the Scots' lead to 50-29 with 10:26 remaining. The Scots extended their lead to as many as 27 following a layup by Ben Keton as Lyon came away with a 24-point victory.
Chris Craig and Cole Anderson also finished in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
