Men’s Soccer Rides Second-Half Momentum Past Central Baptist

Lyon College men's soccer team will head into the AMC Final Round after defeating Central Baptist College in Semifinals

BATESVILLE, Ark. - Lyon College men's soccer team is headed for the final round of the American Midwest Conference Championship after defeating Central Baptist College in a 1-6 blowout on Tuesday.

The Scots got off to a slow start with the Mustangs scoring a goal early in the first half. CBC's Nyasha Dube scored a solo penalty kick within the first five minutes of the game to lead the Scots into halftime. In the second half of the match, Juan Araque scored a goal to tie the game. Five more goals from the Scots led to a second-half takeover and a team-high six total goals in one game. The Scots also dubbed a team high in assists in a game with 7.

"It was definitely a tale of two halves today," said head coach David Groves. "The boys should be proud of the mental fortitude they showed, keeping their composure and executing the game plan. I'd have to say, this is a really special group."

The Scots were stopped in the semifinals last year by Missouri Baptist tied at 0-0, and they lost to Columbia College in the finals in the 2019 season. This year, the Scots will host Harris-Stowe State University on Friday, Nov. 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Huser Field.
