Scots win 1st game of Lyon Classic

BATESVILLE - Jade Giron scored 18 points, while Paige Kelley and Kristen Baham each had 11 points to lead Lyon College past LSU Shreveport 58-53 in the Lyon College Classic on Friday afternoon.
Lyon outscored LSU Shreveport 24-15 in the first half and maintained its advantage through out the second half. Allison Byars hit three free throws in the final 14 seconds to secure the win. 
Lyon College led 10-0 over the first six minutes of the first quarter. Byars, Giron and Kelley. Ashley Reichart hit a three-pointer for Lyon College at the four minute to make it 10-0. More free throws from Giron put Lyon up 14-6.
In the second period, LSU-Shreveport closed the gap to five points, but Giron put in a layup for Lyon College. Giron added another jumper and Katie Turner put in a layup for Lyon to build a 24-15 halftime lead.
Kelley scored twice and Kristen Baham made a three-pointer to put Lyon College up 33-23 with two minutes to play in the third quarter. Baham hit her second trey to up the lead to 13 points, 36-23. Baham put in a layup before LSU-Sherveport made a run to get back in the game 38-29 on a three-pointer from Ciera Daniels.
LSU-Shreveport closed to with two point with 8:22 to play on a jumper from Angel Reese to cut the Lyon lead to 38-36. Kelley made two baskets in a row for Lyon College, Giron added a layup and Baham hit a three-pointer to extend the lead back to 10 points, 46-36.
In the final six minutes, Lyon College led by as much as 12 points with Haley Wesley putting in a layup to maintain a double-digit lead with 2:29 to go.
LSU-Shreveport got as close as six points with 44 seconds to play on a layup by Daniels. Giron and Byars made free throws for Lyon in the final seconds to keep a seven point lead that was cut to five points at the buzzer ona jumper from Taralyn Sweeney for LSU-Shreveport.
Lyon College will be in action this afternoon at 1 p.m.
