FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Three Lyon College women's wrestlers – Jasmine Hernandez, Ashley Whetzal, and Rebekah Garcia – placed at the Robert Horton Open this afternoon. Hernandez captured third place, while Whetzal garnered a fourth-place finish and Garcia took home sixth place.
Jasmine Hernandez split in her first two matches of the tournament. However, the Scot saved her best two performances for last as she shut out her next two opponents, 10-0, to earn third place in the 123-pound weight class.
Ashley Whetzal also put together her second consecutive strong showing as she pinned Greensboro College's Ariana Wolkerfstorfer to clinch a fourth-place finish.
Rebekah Garcia had a busy day for the Scots as she competed in five matches this afternoon. After dropping her first match of the tournament, Garcia rallied to accumulate two wins over her final four matches to take home sixth place in the 143-pound weight division.
Jessienna Burkett-Erice also put together a pair of dominating performances today as she defeated two Emmanuel College wrestlers via tech falls.
Mariah Spix added a victory in the 116-pound division as she bested Lindenwood University's Emalie Olson, 14-1.
Kassidy Ramirez, Laura Lincoln, and Emma De Brum also competed for the Scots in the Robert Horton Open today.
UP NEXT
The Lyon College women's wrestling team will return to the mat Friday for their home opener. The Scots will battle Oklahoma City University at 7:00 p.m. inside Becknell Gymnasium.
