Men’s Basketball Opens Four-Game Home Stand

The Lyon College men’s basketball team will open up a four-game home stand with two conference games this weekend

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's basketball team will return to Becknell Gymnasium and open up a four-game home stand this weekend when the Scots host the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy on Thursday and Missouri Baptist on Saturday. Tip-off for Thursday's game is set for 7:30 p.m., while Saturday's game is slated for a 3 p.m. start.

Spectators for Lyon College Athletic home events will be limited to Lyon College faculty, staff and students as well as two family members (including children) for Lyon College student-athletes competing at the event (must present card to enter). Admission is $5 per person (athletic events are free to all current students, staff, and faculty with Lyon ID.) Seating is limited and will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Gates open 30 minutes prior to tip-off. Masks must be worn at all times and temperature checks upon entrance.

THE MATCHUP
LYON: 
The Scots fell to 4-4 (3-2 AMC) following a 74-63 loss at Columbia College on Tuesday night. Fairs Verlasevic led the Scots offensively with a team-high 12 points against the Cougars, while Grant Patterson and Chris Craig added 11 and 10 points, respectively. For the season, Cole Anderson is leading the Scots in scoring at 12.6 points per game, while Craig is leading Lyon with 6.5 rebounds per game. As a team, the Scots are limiting their opponents to 64.4 points per game, which is the sixth-lowest mark in the NAIA.

UHSP: The Eutectics enter Thursday's game at 1-12 overall and 0-5 in the AMC. Three Eutectics are averaging double figures scoring this season, led by RJ Wright's team-high 17.1 points per game. Jason Udolisa is second on the team in scoring at 10.8 points per game, while Darius Dorsey is not far behind him at 10.2 points per game.

MBU: Missouri Baptist enters the weekend at 8-6 (4-2 AMC) and will play at William Woods on Thursday prior to making the drive to Lyon on Saturday. The Spartans are led offensively by Brendon Hardy and John Yaeger. Hardy is averaging a team-high 13.1 points per game, while Yaeger is not far behind at 12.2 points per game. Yaeger is the leading rebounder for the Spartans at 7.3 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY
The Scots are 11-1 all-time against UHSP and hold a 16-11 advantage in the all-time series against the Spartans. Lyon earned a 76-64 win in the last meeting against UHSP on Feb. 27, 2020, at home. The Scots and Spartans squared off just a couple of weeks ago on Jan. 9, as Lyon earned a 58-53 win at MBU.

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
Following Saturday's game against MBU, the Scots will close out their four-game home stand with a pair of non-conference games next week. The Scots will host Ecclesia College on Jan. 25 at 6 p.m., and Bacone College on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.
