GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Lyon College softball team defeated Keiser University, 5-3, and No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett College, 5-1, on the final day of the Gulf Shores Tournament.
Lyon moves to 15-6 on the season. Keiser University falls to 8-4, while No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett goes to 12-8.
Game One: (RV) Lyon 5, Keiser 3
Keiser University started the scoring as the Seahawks scratched a run across in the top of the third on a sac fly by Cheyenne Blumberg, scoring Megan Carver.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Seahawks would tack on two more runs, giving Keiser University a 3-0 lead.
The Scots, though, responded in the bottom of the fifth inning. A leadoff walk by
Cheyenne Herrera and bunt single by
Mikayla Mullen put runners on the corners with no outs.
Anna Beth Conditt, then, delivered an RBI single through the left side, scoring Herrera. After a bunt single by
Siobhan Taylor loaded the bases with no outs in the frame,
Megan Micke hit a sac fly to left field, trimming Lyon's deficit to just one. With two outs in the inning,
Kassidy Robinson crushed a 2-RBI double to left field, giving Lyon their first lead of the game, 4-3.
Lyon would tack on one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning. After a one-out double by
Cheyenne Herrera,
Mikayla Mullen delivered an RBI-single right back up the middle, plating Herrera and giving the Scots a 5-3 lead.
Shyanne Pedroza was phenomenal in the contest and retired the final eight batters, en route to earning the Scots a 5-3 victory over Keiser University on Sunday. Pedroza picked up the complete game victory, while striking out three. Offensively Lyon was led by
Mikayla Mullen and
Kassidy Robinson. Mullen was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in the victory, while Robinson was 1-for-2 with a 2-RBI double in the contest.
Game Two: (RV) Lyon 5, No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett 1
The Scots opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning as
Siobhan Taylor reached on an error and came around to score on a past ball later in the frame. This gave Lyon a 1-0 advantage.
With two outs in the top of the fifth inning, the Scots strung together four consecutive singles by
Addison Harmon,
Jasmine Carlos,
Riley Shaw, and
Cheyenne Herrera to increase their lead to three.
Lyon tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. After a leadoff single by
Mikayla Mullen,
Anna Beth Conditt crushed a double to put runners on second and third with no outs in the frame. Mullen, then, scored on a fielder's choice, while Conditt came around to score on an error, giving Lyon a 5-0 lead.
Georgia Gwinnett would string together three singles in the top of the seventh inning, but
Katelyn Platt was up to the task and retired the final batter as she induced a groundout, earning Lyon a 5-1 victory over No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett College on Sunday. Platt was dominant in the circle as she picked up the complete game victory, while
Mikayla Mullen paced the Scots offensively as she went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run scored in the contest.

The Scots open up conference play as Lyon travels to Missouri to take on No. 6 Columbia College in an AMC doubleheader.
