BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team defeated William Penn University, 2-1, before falling to Judson University in 10 innings, 13-12, in the final day of the Scots Tri-Match.
Lyon moves to 11-4 on the season. Judson University goes to 10-6, while William Penn University falls to 0-9.
Game One: Lyon 2, William Penn 1
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning. Kait Rhode led off the inning with a single and came around to score on a misplayed grounder, giving the Statemen a 1-0 lead.
The game remained 1-0 in favor of William Penn until the top of the fifth inning.
Siobhan Taylor led off the frame with an infield single. With two outs,
Addison Harmon crushed the first pitch she saw over the left field fence, giving Lyon a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, William Penn put runners on second and third with one out.
Shyanne Pedroza was up to the task as she got a huge strikeout and induced a game-ending groundout to short, earning Lyon a 2-1 victory over William Penn University on Sunday. Pedroza picked up the complete game victory, while striking out four batters.
Addison Harmon led the Scots offensively as she went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored.
Game Two: Judson 13, Lyon 12 (10 Inn.)
The Scots scratched a run across in the first inning as
Megan Micke came around to score on an RBI groundout by
Cheyenne Black, giving Lyon a 1-0 lead.
Judson would answer back in the bottom of the first inning with three runs of their own on a Skye Osbourne RBI single and Karli Allen 2-run home run.
In the bottom of the second inning, Skye Osbourne delivered another RBI single, extending Judson's lead to three.
The Scots, however, would chip away with a run each in the third and fourth inning.
Megan Micke launched a solo home run in the third inning, while
Jasmine Carlos delivered an RBI double off the left field fence, trimming Judson's lead to just one.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles responded with a pair of runs on a 2-run home run by Sydney Harrison.
Lyon, though, got the bats rolling in the sixth inning. A pair of singles by
Siobhan Taylor and
Megan Micke put runners on the corner with two outs in the top of the sixth. A past ball allowed Taylor to score from third.
Addison Harmon, then, legged out an infield single. A
Kassidy Robinson walk loaded the bases for
Cheyenne Herrera. Herrera cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double to give Lyon a 7-6 lead.
Cheyenne Black, then, slapped an RBI double to right field, plating Herrera.
In the bottom of the frame, though, Judson tied up the game on a 2-out 2-RBI single by Karli Allen.
Neither side scored in the seventh inning, and we headed to extras. Each side scored a run apiece in the eighth and ninth innings, making the score 10-10 heading into the tenth inning.
In the top of the tenth inning,
Megan Micke laced an RBI-single to right field, scoring
Camryn Long. After a stolen base and sac bunt,
Kassidy Robinson hit a sac-fly to left field, plating Micke and giving Lyon a 12-10 lead.
In the bottom of the tenth inning, Elizabeth Gagnon delivered an RBI double to left field, trimming Lyon's lead to just one. With two outs in the frame, Skye Osbourne drove a 2-run home run over the left field fence, earning Judson a 13-12 walk-off victory over Lyon College on Sunday.
Sabrina Lowe got the start for the Scots and threw 5.1 innings, while giving up six earned runs and striking out two.
Shyanne Pedroza came in in relief and threw 4.1 innings, while giving up three runs and striking out three. Offensively, Lyon was led by
Megan Micke,
Cheyenne Herrera, and
Siobhan Taylor. Micke was 3-for-6 with five runs scored, two RBI's, two stolen bases, and a home run. Herrera went 2-for-3 in the game with three RBI's, a run scored and a walk, while Taylor was 3-for-5 at the dish with one run scored and one RBI.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots travel to Alabama to compete in the Gulf Shores Tournament on Friday, Mar. 6, Saturday, Mar. 7, and Sunday, Mar. 8. While in Alabama, Lyon will face (RV) Brenau University, No. 7 University of Mobile, No. 22 Morningside College, Blue Mountain College, Keiser University, and No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett College.
