BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's basketball team remains in the hunt for a top-four seed in the American Midwest Conference Championship following a 76-64 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Thursday night inside Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots improved to 18-11 (13-8 AMC), which marks the most wins in the regular season since 1983-84. STLCOP dropped to 5-22 (3-18 AMC).
Lyon jumped out to an early 11-4 lead after a three-pointer by Dominique Loyd five minutes into the contest. STLCOP responded with a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to take a 14-13 lead before Lyon answered back with a 16-3 run, which was capped off by a jumper by Faris Verlasevic, that gave the Scots a 29-17 advantage.
The Scots extended their lead to 16 late in the first half as a three-point play by Hunter Daley gave Lyon a 42-26 advantage at the break.
A layup by Ray Price pushed the Scots lead to 57-33 in the opening minutes of the second half. The Scots continued to hold a 20-plus point advantage over the Eutectics much of the half until Jordan Anderson knocked down a pair of free throws that trimmed the deficit to 65-46. A pair of free throws by Cole Anderson pushed the lead back up to 21 with just over eight minutes remaining. STLCOP managed to pull back within 12 in the final seconds, but the Scots already put the game out of reach.
Four Scots finished in double figures in scoring, led by Daley's team-high 17 points. Verlasevic scored 16 points off the bench, while Price and Anderson chipped in 15 and 12 points, respectively.
The Scots will end their regular season on Saturday afternoon in another key AMC matchup. Lyon will host Columbia College at 3 p.m. inside Becknell Gymnasium. The Scots can clinch the No. 4-seed in the AMC Championship with a win over the Cougars and a loss by Harris-Stowe against Freed-Hardeman.
