BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The 10th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team matched up with (RV) Lindenwood-Belleville on Thursday in the American Midwest Conference "Game of the Week." The Scots and Lady Lynx battled back-and-forth all night, but Lyon was able to fend off LUB, 73-65.

The Scots improved their record to 16-2 (12-1 AMC), while LUB fell to 11-6 (8-5 AMC).

The seesaw battle started right from the beginning as the Scots held a slim, 12-11, lead after the first quarter. Lyon began to pull away from LUB in the opening minutes of the second quarter as Marleigh Dodson broke a 14-14 tie with three free throws. Katie Turner followed with a bucket before Madison Riley and Kristen Baham added to a 10-0 run for the Scots that gave Lyon a 24-14 lead with 4:48 left in the quarter. The Lady Lynx answered back with a big run of their own in the final two minutes of the quarter and cut the deficit to three at 28-25 at the half.

Lindenwood-Belleville continued to hang with the Scots for much of the third quarter until back-to-back jumpers by Liz Henderson gave Lyon a 45-34 lead. LUB pulled back within five on a jumper by Brianna Mueller before the Scots extended their lead back to double-digits on a three by Kaleah Davis and a layup by Jade Giron.

Lyon extended its lead to as many as 12 in the fourth quarter before LUB cut the deficit to five, 70-65, on a bucket by Teresa Allgeyer with 22 seconds left to play. That would be as close as LUB would get the rest of the way as Giron sealed the win with three late free throws.

Turner paced the Scots with a team-high 19 points, while Giron added 17 points to go along with eight rebounds. Henderson also finished in double-digits with 15 points.

The Scots will end their four-game road trip on Saturday at Missouri Baptist at 1 p.m.
