BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Cole Anderson and Dominique Loyd combined for 35 points as the duo helped the Lyon College men's basketball team to a 57-54 win at Lindenwood-Belleville on Thursday night. The win moved the Scots to 12-7 (8-4 American Midwest Conference), while LUB fell to 3-15 (2-10 AMC).
Lindenwood-Belleville broke a 7-7 tie midway through the first half with a 12-2 run and took a 19-9 lead over the Scots on a three-pointer by Hector Rebellon. Lyon cut the deficit in have just five minutes later as Anderson hit on back-to-back buckets to bring the Scots within five at 28-23. LUB answered with a three by Brenden Gillman before a free throw by Faris Verlasevic put the score at 31-24 in favor of the Lynx at the half.
A quick 7-2 run to open up the half extended the Lynx lead up to 12 just two minutes in before Ray Price and Loyd ended the run with a bucket each. Anderson followed with the next six points for the Scots before Hunter Daley and Loyd knocked down a three-pointer each to tie the game at 42-42.
The Lynx appeared as if they were going to pull away from the Scots as they took a 51-44 lead with just over six minutes remaining but a pair of free throws each by Loyd and Winston Peace, followed by another bucket by Loyd brought the Scots back within one at 51-50. The duo of Anderson and Loyd went on to score the final seven points of the game for the Scots as a pair of free throws by Loyd with 10 seconds remaining sealed the win for Lyon.
Anderson led all scorers with 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field, while Loyd added 17 points as he finished 5-of-6 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
The Scots will end a four-game road trip on Saturday at Missouri Baptist at 3 p.m.
